About Indian Drug Manufacturers Association (IDMA)


IDMA, founded in 1961, is a premier association of the Indian Pharmaceutical Industry and has come to be regarded in Government, Media and Industry circles as the Voice of the National Sector. IDMA has a membership of over 600 large, medium and small companies manufacturing bulk drugs and formulations from the length and breadth of the country .

IDMA is a Professional and a Scientific body and publishes two journals - a weekly IDMA BULLETIN, and a Monthly Scientific and Research journal INDIAN DRUGS; It also releases other specialized publications such as the Annual Publication that provides statistical and other relevant data, the Indian Herbal Pharmacopoeia, APA Forum, IDMA PEG Newsletter, Technical Monographs etc.

IDMA has also published Guidelines and Guidebooks for better performance of the industry such as "Guidelines on Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices", "Guidelines on Disposal of Date Expired / Damaged / Rejected Medicines" and "Guidebooks on Good Manufacturing Practices".

IDMA, in order to promote and help the growth of the National Pharmaceutical Industry, organizes Seminars and Workshops on important topics of immediate relevance and necessity for the industry and acadameia and involving the regulatory bodies.

IDMA has instituted various Awards such as the IDMA Quality Excellence Awards for Bulk Drugs and Formulation Manufacturing Units, the IDMA Patent Awards for Best Patents Granted in India and Globally, IDMA Research Awards and The Best Review Article Award for the Best Original Research Papers and Review Article published in Indian Drugs, IDMA G P Nair Awards to outstanding top ranking students of B.Pharm of various universities etc.

IDMA also organizes an International Pharmaceutical Analysts' Convention (IDMA-PAC) where, among other activities, the IDMA-APA Eminent Analyst Award in recognition of life-time contribution and in the field of Quality Assurance/Quality Control, IDMA-APA Young Analyst Award to encourage and promote a young professional analyst of promise are given away.
